Bob Lack is the Group Leader for Security at the London Borough of Newham. He served 32 years with the Metropolitan Police Service before taking up this post in 1996. He was responsible for drawing together the scheme that won Home Office funding in 1997/98 for development of a mobile CCTV camera system to monitor the Borough's crime 'Hot Spots'. He lead the project that integrated of the use of CCTV and technology, 'Facial Recognition', to identify local criminals passing under the Town Centre cameras. This project required frequent discussions with concerned parties of issues of Data Protection, Privacy, Civil Liberties and Human Rights. Bob manages the CCTV Control Room in addition to the Parks Constabulary and Street Scene Enforcement Team. He is one of two security advisors to the authority and Deputy Emergency Planning Officer. He is one of the Authorities co-ordinators for Crime & Disorder activities. Bob was born in Newham in 1946 and educated in the Borough joining the Metropolitan Police in 1963. He is currently also Project Manager to build a new control room complex having recently been successful in obtaining £1.2 million pound from the Home Office Crime Reduction Unit to deliver an even more efficient crime-fighting tool on behalf of the residents of both Newham and Tower Hamlets.
