Beth
Givens is the founder and director of the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, a nongovernment
organization based in San Diego California. It was established in 1992. The
Clearinghouse has a dual mission: to provide information to consumers about how
to safeguard their privacy, and to advocate for consumer protection in public
policy arenas such as legislative and regulatory agency proceedings.
Givens
has over 20 years experience in consumer advocacy and public policy. She is author
of The Privacy Rights Handbook (1997), and is author/editor of the Clearinghouse's
many Fact Sheets. She is often interviewed by the media. And she has served on
many task forces to shape public policy, representing consumers' interests.
Givens
holds a master's degree from the University of Southern California Annenberg School
for Communication as well as a master's degree in librarianship from the University
